A gamble by comedian Eddie Butita to thrust his career into the fleeting stage of music is seemingly paying off.
Butita is topping music charts in Kenya with his debut single Kidesign that plugged in rapper King Kaka and fellow comic DJ Shiti.
Released four days ago, the song’s video has amassed an impressive 121,138 views as of July 4.
A huge leap of faith for a debutant who made a name for himself in the popular Churchill Show series before cementing his position on TV as a regular on The Trend with Amina Abdi Rabar.
Critics have praised Butita’s voice as a soothing but firm entrant to the entertainment scene and a quiet re-awakening of the late dance hall singer Mighty King Kong of the Ladies Choice fame.
"Butita can sing, ooh my," wrote Cynthia Kimanyim.
"Butita see this guy my guy!! He can sing Kidesign!! Respect sana!! Alafu king kaka big up sana," added Peygan Limited.
Cyndy Cyndy: "Eddykumbe unaeza imba, nice work guys, King Kaka pale and the funny boy Dj Shiti."
Is he up to the task?
Butita’s move come under a year after comedian Timothy Kimani alias Njugush tested the waters via the 2018 banger Sijaskia Vibaya after being featured by rapper Fena Gitu.
A song that immortalized the Sijaskia Vibaya phrase associated with the comedian who first hit the jackpot inthe Real Househelp's of Kawangware.
