Many six-year-olds could care less about members of the opposite sex leave alone get the courage to talk to them.
Then again not every six year old was like Jeff Koinange. He had his first girlfriend at the age of six.
Speaking to Jalang’o during their morning radio show Jeff and Jalas, the media personality revealed that his first catch was a Japanese girl by the name Yoko Seki whom he met in the early 1970’s.
‘’Her dad worked for JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency). So Yoko and her sister Megumi were very good friends with the Japanese Ambassador’s kids who used to drive in a big black Royce…Yoko and her sister would always join them because I think they lived somewhere close to each other,’’ said Jeff.
To get his attention Yoko wrote him a letter with a surprise inside that to date remains one of the sweetest things the Citizen TV news anchor had ever seen.
‘’Yoko was a sweet little kid, so we struck a talking relationship. And I remember one day she was dying to talk to me and she wrote me a letter…but she wrote it in conjunction with some other girls. And in the letter, they put some chocolates…you know, like a chocolate bar…and it was the sweetest thing I’d ever seen, ’’ added Jeff.
But it would be short-lived after Jeff left for another school.
Fast forward into the future fate would bring the two former lovebirds together and reconnect with their former classmates a WhatsApp group was formed.
Jeff Koinange is married to Shaila Koinange a Kenyan of Asian origin whom he met while they were auditioning to be flight attendants for Pan AM World Airways in 1986.
They have a son, Jamal Mbiyu Koinange.
