Kenyan singer, rapper, drummer and entrepreneur Muthoni Drummer Queen has called out on artists to join in on the conversation and the movement against censorship, creative rights and KFCB’s Mandate.

Muthoni made the appeal while attending a talk held at Ukweli Café on Saturday the 26th of May prompted by Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) move to ban films and censor the creative industry.

Tweeting live from the venue during the event, she said, “I don’t do it for the internet. I do it for real. Artivism. You need to stop being a “cool kid” and get into this right now. This is not the time to hide behind your apathy talking about ‘its Kenya’ ‘nothing changes’ ‘Ezekiel is a government guy with top level support so we can’t win.’ STOP THAT NONSENSE! That lazy defeatist attitude must go!”

“This battle is for the ones who are doing it for real. Those whose livelihood comes from their creativity. It is not just film that is under siege, it’s all our creative outputs,” she added.

She has always been vocal speaking against these restraints and oppression by the authorities in person and also in her music.
