A man was killed by his bull at Menyikwa in Kisii yesterday.

David Ogega died on the spot a few metres from his home after being gored by the bull (right).

He had just tethered the young bull on the roadside along the Kisii-Kilgoris road when the incident happened.

Peter Ondego, a cousin of the slain man, said he may have landed on a hard surface after being tossed in the air by the bull.

Elders are likely to conduct a Kisii traditional cleansing ceremony,  a process which involves burning the cow to ashes.

Elder Alloys Ayora explained that the bull would not be allowed back to the homestead.

"Kisii traditions allow elders to burn the bull and ensure that everything burns down to ashes," said Ayora.

However, this could be opposed because of Christian beliefs.

"We may allow the slaughtering of the bull after which the meat will be given to children to feed on," said Ayora.

Ogega's father, Nyagami Oigara, termed the incident as unfortunate.

"It is a shock to the family... We leave everything to God," said Mr Oigara.

Police from Kisii Central took the body to a private morgue in Kisii town.
