Two men and a woman have been charged for posing as M-Pesa agents and defrauding unsuspecting agents.
The threeLucy Muthoni, Christopher Otieno Omira and Augustine Kikonzi Pondi were accused that on December 10, 2018, at Kijauri Roche Market defrauded Joel Omache Nyabuti of Sh102,000.
They were alleged to have falsely pretended that they were Safaricom customer care agents and were in a position to unblock the M-Pesa agent’s line and boost the float.
There was debate in court as to whether the suspects should be released on bond or not before it emerged that the trio were wanted in four police stations to answer to charges related to mobile money transfer fraud.
The suspects, who denied the charges, argued that they had been charged at the Nakuru Law Courts and that they were ready to cooperate with the prosecution.
They also told the court that they were employed and their places of work were well known to the prosecution and that they would not run away.
They were released on a Sh300,000 bond. Their case will be heard in April.
