A man was been charged with impersonating a police officer.

The accused, identified as Andrew Mbithuka Mutua (pictured), was allegedly busted after receiving a Sh90 bribe.

According to police, Mutua falsely presented himself as a police officer in Nairobi’s Machakos Country Bus Station.

Police said Mutua arrested Emanuel Mwanzia and Barnabas Muthama, pretending to be a law enforcement officer.

The court heard that Mutua asked one of his victims to produce his identity card, which he did. The suspect introduced himself as a CID officer and demanded Sh500.

It is claimed that the complainant handed Mutua Sh90 that he accepted and set him free.

Mutua’s goose was cooked when he arrested Mwanzia and demanded Sh500. This time however, he is alleged to have identified himself as a police officer attached to Kamukunji Police Station.

Muthama who had earlier paid Sh90 to buy his freedom heard this and got suspicious. He then rushed to the nearby Muoroto police post and tipped police officers who arrested the suspect.

Mutua denied the charges and was set free on a Sh100, 000 cash bail pending hearing on January 22, 2019.
