Ida Odinga, wife of the just endorsed 2022 presidential candidate and ODM leader Raila Odinga, got emotional as she addressed thousands of his supporters at the Kasarani Sports Complex, Nairobi when she gave her personal account of a man she has known for years.

The businesswoman, activist and educator had been joined by the couple’s children Rosemary and Junior among other family members before giving an account of her husband, who was a political detainee.

“Today, I feel highly honoured and pleased just to bring one message to you. I am of course speaking on my own behalf and on behalf of the Odinga family,” she said.

“As a good friend and as my good husband, somebody I have known for years… over 40 years, his love for this nation is the love for the people of Kenya. For many years, Raila has believed that Kenya can be a better place than it is today. Many times we see young people like the ones here and worry. We worry about the kind of life they will live,” she said.

Ida, who earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nairobi in 1974 when she was only 24 years old said quality education, good health and employment are some of Raila’s priorities.

She worked as a teacher for more than 20 years after graduating.

With his Azimio la Umoja movement, Raila officially joined the 2022 presidential race during a mammoth convention attended by political leaders and other influential people.
