The Turkana County government will recompense the Jie community of neighbouring Uganda for the death of a boy during a cattle raid.

It will hand over 120 head of cattle.

The raid that occurred early this month in Kotido district, Uganda, led to the death of one person and the theft of 44 head of cattle.

“The county government is facilitating negotiations for compensation of the life lost, according to the Nabilatuk Resolution.

We expect that by today (Monday), we will have made recoveries so that we hand over the cattle to the affected community,” said Loima sub-county administrator Chris Eregae.

According to Eregae, the 44 animals had been recovered after collaboration between security officers and county government officials.

The Nabilatuk resolution are agreements jointly put together by pastoralists in the Karamojong region as deterrence to cattle rustling.

They agreed that severe punishment and stiff penalties be imposed on the aggressors and that anyone killed in an attack be compensated.
