Celebrity splits: Breakups that have been noisy and messy

When the popular social media personalities Frankie Just Gym It Kiarie and Corazon Kwamboka started seeing each other towards the end of 2019, the news rocked the internet.

There was speculation that the good-looking pair had been spotted out on dates soon after Frankie’s split from content creator Maureen Waititu, with whom he had had a much-publicized relationship.

The couple revealed that they were indeed an item at around the same time they announced that they were expecting their first child together.

Through a highly anticipated interview with a celebrity blogger, Kwamboka and Kiarie opened up for the first time about the scrutiny they faced on getting together.

"We kept the relationship a secret because we did not want the backlash and people taking photos of us together. I never took her out for any dates. We always had meals at home since we did not want people taking photos of us,” Frankie said on the live session.

The couple denied any association between their pairing up and Frankie’s split with Waititu, saying that they were both going through difficult break-ups when they began spending time together.

"Most people say that she is the reason my marriage did not work. She is not and we only met way later in June/July when I had ended things. We were all going through a breakup at the time. We had a lot in common and we were just friends. We started dating officially in December," Frankie added.

Now, nearly two years since their love affair blossomed, and two young children later, the pair has reportely split.

The somber news was announced by Corazon on Instagram following speculation that there had been trouble in paradise for some time.

“I’m single. I choose me. Life goes on,” Kwamboka captioned the black and white image of a rose.

Sure enough, bad news travels quicker, as this spread like wildfire. While all eyes were on Frankie for his side of things, he remained mum and has yet to speak out.

Now, the 32-year-old fitness coach is a father of four, two young sons with his ex-fiancé Maureen and an infant son and daughter with his now ex-fiance Corazon.

Only time will tell how the former couple will handle co-parenting. Unfortunately, he was involved in a public spat with his ex, whom he accused of denying access to their boys.

The two went back and forth on Instagram and YouTube in October 2020,  both parties angrily addressing each other and giving their side of the story on their co-parenting struggles.

Their split joins a list of other complicated celebrity break-ups that were either difficult, publicly controversial or unfortunately saw children witness their parents splitting up.

Right before Kiarie and Kwamboka’s break-up, there was that of the famous local comedian David Oyando alias ‘Mulamwah’ and his then girlfriend Caroline 'Sonnie' Muthoni, which happened after four years together.

Mulamwa’s relationship with his partner Sonnie was one that looked picture perfect. She was the calm and beautiful partner of a hilarious funny-man and the two seemed to complement each other well.

When they announced that they would be going their separate ways, it was so unbelievable that netizens concluded that it must have been a clout-chasing scheme.

But there was never a ‘just-kidding’. The longer time went on, the clearer it became that the couple had actually broken up- and there were no plans for reconciliation.

In December last year, Sonnie, who doubles up as a content creator took to her social media accounts to let their fans know that the relationship was over, barely three months after the two welcomed their baby girl together.

"This is to make it clear that Mulamwah and I are no longer together. We have both agreed to part ways for reasons best known to us. Thank you so much for the love and support you gave us for those four years, I personally do not take it for granted," she wrote.

And before fans could catch their breath, Mulamwah was already posting photographs of his new girlfriend.

So ripe was the speculation that talk of paternity doubts ran rampant- which Sonnie was quick to sternly put to a stop.

“Hello fam, it’s so bad seeing people take advantage of the current situation and it’s not even funny. This is nothing to play with or rather take advantage of. Sio fiti manze. You are creating a very bad image out there and it’s not good for me and my little angel,” Sonnie wrote in an Instagram post.

She added: “And for those insisting that we should do a DNA to confirm things, that is up to me and Mulamwa to decide. They are private matters and Keila has nothing to do with our differences. Please don’t make this situation harder than it is already for us.”

And even as we observe all of Bongo superstar Diamond Platnumz’ messy break-ups, his Tanzanian counterpart Ali Kiba seems to have his fair share of complex splits.

Early this week, Kiba’s Kenyan wife Amina Khalef filed for divorce in Mombasa’s Kadhi’s court, citing stress and neglect.

In affidavits provided at the court, Khalef said that a strained relationship with Kiba’s relatives negatively impacted her health and ultimately played a role in the break-up.

So troubled was the situation that Khalef claimed she had to leave her marital home to care for her mental health while she was pregnant in October 2018.

Kiba’s ex-wife revealed that the pair had been separated since June 2019. The two share two young sons.

The heartaches that come with broken love don’t just happen to ordinary folk- they happen to mega-powerful stars, like the Hollywood actors Brad Pitt and Angeline Jolie.

Theirs was a whirlwind love- story that captured the attention of the world, lasting over a decade and resulting in six children- three adopted.

Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in September 2016, kicking off the start of a rigorous and tense custody battle.

Since filing, Jolie fought for sole custody of all the children, with both pairs reportedly remaining mum on the final straw that led to the split.

"Pitt was cleared to ‘spend significantly more time with the kids,’ adding that the custody trial involved ‘witnesses, experts, people who have been with the kids. The children’s voices were heard, but they just didn’t testify themselves,’ " Lifestyle magazine The Cut reports.

It adds: “As the custody plot thickens, another dispute is gathering steam. In court documents filed September 21, obtained by Hollywood Life, Pitt accused Jolie of attempting to go behind his back in the sale of their (over Sh 18 billion) $164 million French vineyard, Château Miraval.”
