Fast-rising Tanzanian songbird Zuhura Omar ‘Zuchu’ Kopa finally addressed critics who had been accusing her of leveraging her position at Wasafi Classic Baby (WCB) for her stardom in Bongo Flava. In an interview with Global Publishers, the daughter of Taarab queen Khadija Kopa, said she has no apologies to make for striking gold at WCB.

Blasting naysayers who argue that her growing musical success has been propelled by WCB, Zuchu denied riding on the label’s magical wave, weaved by its owner and founder Diamond Platnumz, saying she has what it takes after years of natured growth.

Zuchu noted that her critics are barking up the wrong tree and went on to highlight how most of her critics do not understand how the creative industry works especially the power wielded by labels and the role of artists in such seasoned establishments.

“What do those who say I am being fronted by Wasafi Classic Baby (WCB) label really want? It is normal for labels to push content and promote their artistes. All the A-listers in the world do it. Tanzanians need to know work labels really do and understand their power in pushing and marketing artists in their roster. If I wasn’t bankable I wouldn’t be here. I’ve persevered, endured and triumphed,” said Zuchu.

Her sentiments come under a week after she denied claims of an implosion at WCB over her ‘favoured stardom’. “The entire WCB team is very proud of me. As such I don’t think there is any hate as it has been suggested because everyone has his or her projects and timing. Besides all these artistes are already established,” she explained.

Allegations she was dating the singer soon after his split from Kenyan radio presenter turned singer Tanasha Donna did not help matters. “I was warned by my mother that netizens can lead me astray and stop me from achieving my dreams. Don’t believe everything that’s being said because there’s freedom of expression and people say what they want to,” said the Cheche hitmaker.

Adding: “I was not involved in Tanasha’s relationship with Diamond, I’m at Wasafi for work only. I need to pursue my dreams and don’t have time for people who want to break my heart. Most importantly, I respect all my bosses at WCB and I also respect Diamond and Tanasha.”
