Gladys Wanga and Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma . Inset (Kaluma and Ogaga' s fight)

Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma became a laughing stock in Parliament after he was walloped senseless by his political opponent at a public rally attended by ODM leader Raila Odinga last week.

For all his machismo, including having embraced the name ‘Akuku Danger’ after the renowned polygamist, Kaluma sat meekly as MPs, including women lawmakers threw barbs at him.

Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay County), witnessed the brawl between the vocal Kaluma was wrestled to the ground by Homa Bay aspirant Washington Ogaga who had a tiff with Kaluma over their respective supporters at the rally.

“You talk a lot kumbe hauna nguvu!” taunted Wanga as the well-built Wafula Wamunyinyi (Kanduyi), broke into fits of laughter saying: “This is not a laughing matter. When I saw two men, another man lying on another one, I didn’t know it was Kaluma who was being squashed down there. There was another lady standing by watching the fight and it looked like she was enjoying.”

The said woman was Wanga whom Majority Leader Aden Duale claimed arranged Kaluma’s beating.

“Kaluma was clobbered at the instigation of Wanga, in front of Baba. But we will help him with medical bills. Let us send our good wishes to Kaluma, for good health and say sorry for his being clobbered,” said Duale wondering why Raila Odinga did not come to his rescue.

The presiding temporary Speaker Moses Cheboi (Kuresoi North) told Kaluma “Please welcome to the chamber, you are a safe man here.”

Deputy Minority Leader Jakoyo Midiwo told lawmakers that it was no laughing matter since “One of us nearly lost his life. He was rolled down the way a huge snake rolls its prey,” said Midiwo, who asked for security to tame the violence.

Kaluma told his colleagues that “he nearly died”.
“We need to take our business here seriously. These things that we are doing here, some people out there can kill for it. It is very contemptuous of the leadership. I barely survived death; if you have contribution (for my treatment), please make it.”
