Chips vendor Bevalyne Kwamboka was all smiles on Friday after Nominated Senator Beatrice Kwamboka boosted her business by donating a number of items.

Taking to Twitter, Bevalyne thanked the politician for fulfilling her promise, appearing to take a swipe at nominated Senator Millicent Omanga.

She received a potato chipper, 20 litres of cooking oil and two sacks of potatoes, Senator Kwamboka also aided her in getting a premise and paying three months’ rent.

“Shukran za dhati kwa Senata Beatrice Kwamboka Kwa Uwezeshaji wake wa vifaa vya kisasa vya kuandaa vibanzi, lita ishirini ya mafuta maalum ya kupikia, gunia mbili za viazi na kodi ya miezi mitatu ya chumba cha kazi.Siasa na vitendo hapana siasa na sinema!”

This comes just a week after she appealed to the government not to evict her from her current location after the Kenyan Urban Roads Authority (KURA) warned against setting up businesses on footbridges and pedestrian pathways.

The fourth-year student at Kenyatta University said the chips business sustains her and is her only source of livelihood.

“At the moment I do not have a permanent structure…I usually do my business, clean up the place and go home. What I can tell KeNHA is that as much as I sell chips here, I have not affected anything.

“I have even placed an iron sheet even to prevent smoke from destroying the footbridge. This (referring to the business) is my mother, this is my father, this is my husband, this is my employment," she stated.

It all started when one netizen tagged the authority on a tweet where Bevalyne was seen preparing fries.

“KURA are these activities legal?” he asked. To which KURA responded: “This is illegal and an infringement to pedestrian rights…The footbridges and walkways are meant for Pedestrian passage and not any form of business.”

A fortnight ago, Bevalyne accused Omanga of using her for political clout, and, thereafter, abandoning her with little or no donation at all.

On Monday, October 4, Senator Omanga had tweeted that she had donated, among others, branded umbrellas, aprons and money to Bevalyne to “expand her business”.

Kwamboka said, given she wasn’t handed over the cash at the scene, she later texted Omanga’s personal assistant to enquire about the money the senator had talked about in her tweet, but the PA denied being given any money to donate to the trader.

However, in a quick rejoinder, Omanga denied being crafty in her politics and refuted allegations that she used Kwamboka for political mileage.
