Kenyan politicians accuse their Nigerian counterparts of being self-centered thieves

Counties

Following the extensive stay of the Nigerian president in a foreign hospital prior to his recent release, a section of Kenyan politicians have lashed out at Nigerian leaders, accusing them of failing the people they were elected to serve.

While urging them to fix their ailing public healthcare system, the Kenyan politicians held a press conference at Parliament, saying a leader is judged by what they do to advance the interests of their countrymen and women and not how colourful and bulbous their agbada is.

“Being elected to a leadership position is not a chance to enrich yourself by stealing... it is an opportunity to serve the people who gave you their votes! Someone should tell these Nigerian leaders,” hissed one of the Kenyan leaders in a press conference. While asserting that their country has honourable officials who would quit the moment they realised they were not up to the task, the Kenyan leaders then called upon the Nigerian health minister to resign.

“What is he doing in office if his country men and women have to go seek treatment abroad! In fact, the whole government of Nigeria should resign... they are a disgrace!” the Kenyan leaders said, adding that they did not buy the argument that the reason the Nigerian president had to go to hospital in a European hospital was because he would have been bewitched if he had been treated in a local one.

While seeming to have a better knowledge of the West African state than Nigerians themselves, the Kenyan politicians pointed out what exactly needed to be fixed to improve the public health sector in one the most populous countries in the world.

“You need to get rid of the cancer of corruption at the health ministry... you need to stop stealing drugs and funds meant for children... and you need to pay the healthcare professionals well so that they are not striking all the time!” said the Kenyan leaders patronisingly.

Waste money

While boasting that Kenya was brimming with leadership talent that was unparalled anywhere in the world, the Kenyan politicians then went on to offer to lend their leadership skills to Nigeria since there wasn’t much use for them in Kenya as they had solved all the problems in their country.

Kenyans, however, seemed to have a different view of their leaders and in the end the only conclusion they could draw was that the remarks of their leaders was all the evidence that was needed to demonstrate the poor state of mental healthcare in the country.

When confronted by journalists and questioned over whether their criticism of the Nigerian health sector was a case of the pot calling the kettle black seeing as Kenyan health sector is ailing, the Kenyan politicians were unanimous in denying it.

“Don’t be ridiculous... pots don’t talk!” they said. The development comes at a time when Kenyan government officials are said to be close to launching a medical tourism product in the country, which will see the nation receive a lot of revenues from foreigners who want to take advantage of our advanced and properly run public healthcare system.

However, pessimists and critics of the country who never seem to see anything good happening locally were quick to suggest that the country should instead market itself as a euthanasia tourism destination, since all you need these days to commit suicide is get a cold and go to a public hospital and die of neglect.

“We must thank our able and inspiring leaders for making suicide cheap and accessible to all since we no longer need to waste money on rat poison or expensive ropes!” one wag was quoted as saying.
