In three weeks, Shinyalu police have uprooted and burnt bhang worth Sh2 million suspected to belong to local peddlers in the area.

Police claimed the bhang found inside Kakamega forest could be a major contributing factor to the lawlessness in the area; and that the only way out was to launch patrols inside the forest.

OCPD Kakamega East, Joseph Chebii told the Crazy Monday that three weeks ago, police who were on patrol to arrest illicit brewers in the area came across another plantation worth Sh1million.

“It is sad that Shinyalu records increased incidents of lawlessness where residents compete to outdo each other on evil,” he said.

“They assault the sub-chiefs and chief, even the village elders cannot tell them a thing.”

A TV documentary that aired on a local station showed the state of the chiefs who have been assaulted in the course of their duty.

Most of the administrators had resolved to resign from their jobs.
