Opposition chief lands at JKIA amid heavy chaos

Raila Odinga has landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport a few minutes after 11 am from a ten day trip in the US.

The opposition outfit, National Super Alliance's (NASA) supporters had earlier defied police orders to keep off the airport and surrounding areas.

Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinnet and Nairobi County Commander Japhet Koome had outlawed the Nasa supporters' meeting at the airport citing security concerns.

Youths in their hundreds marched along Mombasa Road towards the airport, braving tear gas and water cannons from the police to pass the cordon and enter the airport.

Several vehicles have been destroyed in the confrontation and a few motorists injured during the chaos along adjacent roads to the airport..

Raila Odinga, a cross section of Nasa leaders and their supporters are currently headed to the City center where they are expected to hold a rally at Uhuru Park.

A contingent of anti-riot police is spread along Mombasa road next to Nyayo roundabout to stop the group from entering the central business district.

Tear gas billowed over Jogoo Road as police prevented NASA supporters from marching to Uhuru Park where Raila was to address a rally. Several cars were stoned and drivers injured.

A police pick up was burnt on Jogoo Road.

Unconfirmed  reports said several had been killed.
