Raila demands for jailing of IEBC officials over election illegalities

Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga is now demanding for the immediate arrest and jailing of IEBC officials responsible for the irregularities and illegalities in the August 8 elections.

Speaking during a press conference at Okoa Kenya offices in Nairobi, Raila said the lot that conducted the last elections must watch the repeat election from their prison cells and not from IEBC offices.

“We are counting on these grassroots leaders to ensure the people get us loud and clear that we are ready for elections. But we do not want elections for the sake of it. We need credible elections conducted by men and women of integrity; not by the Chilobas, Chirchirs, Kassaits and Guliyes of this world,” said Raila.

Raila also questioned why IEBC would budget for a repeat Presidential elections to the tune of Sh12 billion yet the electoral technology can be leased or hired at a cheaper price.

“Based on our assessment, this repeat Presidential election can only cost Sh3 billion. Jubilee has inflated the figures so that they can get their cuts. They want to steal from Kenyans,” said Raila.

He maintained that they are opposed to the printing of election materials by the Dubai based Al Ghurair firm and insisted on a thorough independent, transparent end-to-end audit and quality assurance of the election technology system.

“Polling stations must be gazetted, names and respective GPS locations published in at least two daily newspapers with national circulation,” said Raila.

Nasa leaders have continued to push for implementation of irreducible minimums before repeat elections as Jubilee on the other hand accuse the opposition of selfishness and unpreparedness for the election.

Some Jubilee party leaders have been insisting that Nasa writes to IEBC, stating why they are not ready to participate in the October 17 elections and allow President Uhuru Kenyatta to be sworn in.

The Supreme Court nullified August 8 presidential election, citing illegalities and irregularities by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
