Jubilee, NASA recruit agents ahead of poll

Jubilee Party and NASA are working round the clock to put in place measures to guard the presidential votes.

The Sunday Standard has learnt that NASA plans to recruit 300,000 election officials.

The Alliance will begin the second phase of training constituency polls officials on Tuesday in Nairobi.

The exercise will involve two constituency level coordinators and three Information Communication and Technology experts.

“The training is part of an elaborate plan by NASA to guard its vote. The names of those to be trained have been forwarded to the secretariat for facilitation,” said a source who sought anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.

Ease accessibility

Over 1,000 officials are expected to cascade their training to five agents and two ICT officials per polling station in the following week.

“Once the training is complete, the constituency coordinators will organise local meetings with the agents,” said the NASA source.

The first NASA training of about 100 coordinators was done in May at the Park Hotel in Nairobi. They will be in charge of the counties with some devolved units broken down into three or four to ease accessibility.

JP Secretary General Raphael Tuju said recruitment of agents was on-going across the counties and the list will be sent to the headquarters a week before the elections.

“We will comply with the IEBC on the number of the agents allowed, but as at now, we plan to have one per stream. We have empowered our party officials at the county to select reliable officials to guard our vote,” he said.

NASA leaders have vowed to ensure the election is not rigged.
