Four people have gone to court seeking an order to stop the county assembly from implementing a motion reinstating three MCAs to various committees after they were dewhipped by their party.

The four petitioners argued that the Meru County Assembly, the Speaker and three MCAs flouted various principles of governance when they reinstated MCAs Kimathi Ithibua, Romano Mwito and Gabriel Chokera after the ward reps had been dewhipped by their party.

The three were accused of going against a decision by the Party of National Unity decision to dewhip them.

The petitioners, Jacob Mantili Kinganga, John Muriki Rukunga, Harun Murangiri Kobia and Patrick Mungathia Mwila, appeared before Justice A Mabeya seeking an order prohibiting the operationalisation and, or implementation of the assembly’s motion passed on June 30, appointing the MCAs to various committees, pending the hearing and determination of the petition.

The court certified the matter as urgent and prohibited implementation of the motion, an order that will be in force for seven days.
