Police in Athi River on Tuesday gunned down two suspected robbers and recovered a firearm and four rounds of ammunition.

Another suspect managed to escape on foot as the officers engaged the suspected gangsters at Mlolongo Phase 3.

Athi River sub-county police boss Samuel Mukuusi told Standard Digital on the phone that the suspects had attempted to escape on a motorbike after being spotted by police officers who gave a chase and caught up with them at Mlolongo Phase 3 where the two were fatally shot.

“None of them had identification documents, but residents have identified one of the slain suspects as a notorious thug who has been part of a series of armed robberies in Athi River Township and its environs,” said Mukuusi.

He said a manhunt for the third suspect who escaped had been intensified.

Bodies of the slain suspects have been removed to the City Mortuary.
