Of impatient women issuing marriage ultimatums

By BY NIKKO TANUI | October 28th 2013

If you thought it’s only debtors being nagged and threatened with ultimatums, think again. Women nowadays no longer have patience—like their mothers did—for marriage. They are not interested any more in waiting for a man — out of his own volition — to drop on one knee and propose marriage to them.

They literally want to meet a man today, get a marriage proposal by mid-day and a wedding by sunset. But one thing they conveniently forget is that such madness only happens in lazy Hollywood movies.

Honestly, women, what’s the hurry for? It’s not an Olympic sprint, for crying out loud. Look, no man in his right mind will meet a woman today, and literally sign off the rest of his life to her. Only in utopia!

I mean a woman has to prove that she deserves the coveted wedding ring. And if you think I am saying my own things, you just have to find for yourself how long it took rapper Jay Z to marry Beyonce, Barrack Obama to marry Michele or Raila Odinga to marry Ida. I could go on, but you get the drift. Don’t you?

Women have become so aggressive in their quest for marriage. Women today want to move in with a man, and arm-twist him and con their way into marriage using some draconian law that I will not mention here.

Worse, they want a man’s verbal promise of marriage to be taken as a binding agreement, which can be taken against him in a court of law if he dares to break it. Damn, how desperate!

Hello sisters, let me tell you something, if a man loves and wants to marry you, he would not need any pressure to pop the question.

Just when you least expect it, a loving man will take you to some cosy place, and as you will be thinking it’s just another ordinary date, he will go down on his knee and pop the question.

With such a surprise, your knees will inevitably get weak, and you will be tongue-tied  to speak and only nod your head in acceptance.

If you have to issue an ultimatum for a man to marry you, it demonstrates that you are a desperate woman. True, you will manage to force your man to agree to marrying you but it would be a marriage built on quick sand, which will not last.

Put differently, a confident woman doesn’t go around issuing marriage ultimatums to some poor man. Instead, she diplomatically makes him want him as a wife and tactfully instill in him fear of losing her. If he is a clever man, he will read the cue and proceed to make her his wife.
