FARMKENYA STAKEHOLDER BREAKFAST
30 January 2020The Standard Group through Farmkenya Kenya Initiative yesterday held managers breakfast, The forum is one of many initiatives by the Standard Group, under the Farm Kenya initiative, aimed at sensitizing farmers and contributing to food security, one of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Big Four Agenda.
The stakeholder engagement forum was aimed at discussing issues affecting the farming communities in Kenya and focusing on various ways to boost the agriculture sector.
The main theme of the first breakfast was land preparation highlighting issues around seeds, fertilizers, agrochemicals, farm machinery and equipment, and crop regulations.
Speaking during a forum organized by the Standard Group to discuss solutions to improving food security, experts in the agriculture sector agreed that there is a need for a radical shift in how farming is done to tackle emerging challenges such as locusts invasion and changing weather patterns, owing to climate change.

Experts were drawn from agricultural institutions including Kenya Seed Company, FMD East Africa, YARA Kenya, the Agrochemicals Association of Kenya (AAK) and Practical Action in East Africa, unanimously agreed that the only solution to Kenya’s food security is modernization.
In 2019, the country’s food security worsened, with the 2019 report ranking Kenya at position 86 out of 117 countries, this, even as President Uhuru Kenyatta prioritizes food security as one of his key agenda.
