KENYA RE FLAGS OFF PHASE 2 OF THE NIKO FITI CAMPAIGN THROUGH AN EDUCATIVE DRIVE

On Tuesday 26th September 2017, Kenya Re in collaboration with Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK) and Standard Group the main media partner flagged off Phase two of the PWD awareness and accessibility caravan in a bid to lift stigma towards persons living with disability and to provide assistive and mobility devices to over 1300 Persons Living with Disability (PWDs) across the country.
Through the corporation’s CSR flagship program dubbed Niko Fiti – Ability beyond Disability, the Corporation has organized a three phased campaign that will see identification and assessment of PWDs by the Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK) to receive mobility and assistive devices comprising of wheelchairs, tricycles, crutches, walking frames, white canes, special seats, yaya seats, polio boots, slates and stylus among others. Since its inception in 2011, the CSR program has benefitted more than 4000 persons living with disability in the country.
The Phase two of the campaign will have a caravan that will transverse through:
1. Kisii Region (Nyamira/Homa Bay) on 26th – 29th September 2017 distributing 428 devices
2. Embu Region (Embu/Kerugoya/Meru/Isiolo) on 10th -13th October 2017 Distributing 746 Devices
3. Trans Nzoia Region (Embu/Kerugoya/Meru/Isiolo) on 7th -10th November 2017 Distributing 129 Devices
The first phase of the 2017 Niko Fiti campaign saw the launch of the Niko Fiti PWDs Education Integration Program in Lenana School and Moi Girls High school, Isinya aimed at promoting inclusion and opportunity for students living with disability to join reputable secondary schools in 2018. The program involves modification of the schools facilities to ensure access, mobility and integration of students with various disabilities in the institutions.
