The Standard County Golf classic series teed off at the par 72 Thika sports club on Saturday 1st September with high profile players in contest. The inaugural series that heads to Eldoret this weekend attracted over 250 players including Standard Group staff members, scholars, business community and professionals.

John Ngaruiya, a golf consultant said he was happy with his game and was elated that the golfers enjoyed the tournament. Staff members who took part in the event were equally excited, Fred Okang’o, a business manager with the Standard Group said he learnt many lessons on his first competitive play on Saturday. Okang’o who is a member of the golf park, is looking forward to improving his stableford points at the Eldoret leg.
Some of the categories contested and their prizes issued include Member winner, Lady winner, Guest winner and Staff winner. Kahesh Devji Patel and Anne Mukiri emerged the winners of the series. Patel won the men’s category after garnering 21 stable points in the first nine and 23 in the second to finish with a maximum of 44 points. Mukiri registered 21 points and 18 points to emerge Lady winner with 39 points. Staff winner was won by Machua Koinange with 25 points.
After the Eldoret leg, the Standard Group County classic will head to Kitale, Mombasa, Kisumu and finally Nairobi for the grand finale at Muthaiga golf club in Nairobi on December 7th.
