Palaver

There have been mystery calls hinting at a Hillary Clinton-For-2012 election. Cheap shots or a thoroughly clueless Republican party wondering which hat they shall pull out a suitable candidate to take on Obama? The mischief-makers took this campaign to GOP-friendly newspapers and TV talkshows, and even ran a Twitter campaign. No dice. Locally, ODM’s Raila Odinga has put to rest the similar calls to Musalia Mudavadi to "do not let go, or else". ODM party delegates will have the last word.

As police in Embu launched a crackdown on pickpockets as Christmas travellers jammed the town, Palaver got to wondering why travellers think pickpockets and purse snatchers are also on holiday break. Reminds us of the provincial administrator who warned sex workers not to venture into Murang’a in pursuit of farmers whose pockets were bulging with bonus cash! Sex workers have a year-round job targeting maize farmers in Eldoret, Wheat farmers in Narok, Tea and coffee in Kisii, Nandi and Limuru. Not to forget the visiting warships in Mombasa. They follow the money trail.

Okay, so Al Shabaab were crying foul about a ‘mystery" plane having bombed the living daylights out of some hamlet the KDF had not gotten round to liberating. Have they never heard of unmanned aerial vehicles, a.ka. drones? These undertake both reconnaissance and attack missions. That is the turf developed nations are fighting over for supremacy. Meanwhile, Kenya would be wise to leave the drone thing for a while as China has launched a super-speed test train that can do speeds of up to 500 km per hour. After the roads are complete, ask for these trains. It is the only way you can get KDF to Kismayu in two hours flat, and sort out this unending matatu strike business. Just a thought.

And finally...

It took the US 66 years to pin the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for Combat Distinguished Service on black veteran Carl Clark who pulled several shipmates from a burning ship during World War II. When will Kenya pin something on Dedan Kimathi? There must be more to being a hero than just a street named in your honour or statue erected. How about a scholarship fund?
