Police in Murang’a have launched investigations into an incident where a 21-year-old mother is the main suspect in the murder of her two-year-old son on Sunday, January 9 afternoon.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Nancy Muniro stabbed her two sons, aged two and four years) during at Kianjogu village in Kahuro, killing the younger one instantly.

A tweet by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday morning revealed that the suspect had travelled upcountry about a fortnight ago to see her children, who stay with their grandmother, over the holidays.

“The kids' grandmother hoped it would be a precious bonding moment between mother and sons as she stepped out of her house in the morning only for her daughter to turn the killer knife against her little angels at their grandmother's house, before attempting suicide,” DCI tweeted.

The area assistant chief, Lucy Muthoni, told detectives that Munjiro works as a house help in the area and was yet to report back to her place of work for unknown reasons.

The investigators established that the suspect’s mother came back to find her grandchildren soaked in blood and sprawled on the floor. The two-year-old had already died, but the older boy had a faint pulse

He was rushed to Muriranjas hospital before being referred to Murang'a County Referral Hospital in serious condition.

Police who visited the scene recovered a rope hanging from the roof and took the body to the morgue awaiting autopsy.

The suspect is still at large.
