Four MPs have accused Embu Governor Martin Wambora of tarmacking a road that is under the national government.

Senator Lenny Kivuti (pictured) and National Assembly MPs John Muchiri (Manyatta), Muriuki Njagagua (Mbeere North), and Cecily Mbarire (Runyenjes) said the 100km ring road that Mr Wambora started building recently is gazetted as category C and is therefore under the national government.

Wambora, however, maintains the road is in class D and hence belongs to the county. The MPs also accused the governor of awarding the project through single-sourcing in disregard of tendering procedures, a claim which Wambora denies.

Muchiri accused Wambora of borrowing money to build the road "so that he can prove he has done something for the people". Wambora has received overwhelming support from residents who accuse consecutive governments of giving them nothing but empty promises.
