The new study that will pay you to eat avocados

When you take a walk in Nairobi around lunch hour, you cannot fail to spot someone enjoying an avocado.

Some love to eat it plain while others prefer to mix it with dishes like githeri or madondo (beans).

Recently I saw a meme saying that the person who discovered avocados can be smeared on bread deserves a special place in heaven, well, that is a discussion for another day.

Imagine how it would feel like to be paid for eating an avocado daily! Some people would be millionaires I bet.

Now listen, researchers from Loma Linda University in California are looking for 250 avocado lovers who will be paid to eat the fruit every day for six months.

Participants will be assigned to one of two groups: one will eat one avocado every day for six months, while the other will eat just two per month.

At the end of the six months, all participants will be paid £230 roughly Sh23, 000.

Who would not want this money? Not bad for a ‘side hustle’ ey.

The aim of the study - "The Habitual Diet and Avocado Trial- is to find out whether avocados aid in weight loss and there are a number of requirements for the participants.

You must be 25 years and above, measuring between 35-40 inches around the waist depending on gender.

The participants will also undergo two abdominal MRI scans and attend a couple of dietary meetings.

Breastfeeding mothers cannot participate in the study which will also be carried out by three other universities; Penn State, Tufts University and the University of California.

Avocados are a rich source of heart-healthy fats but there are concerns that they may not be as healthy as people assume.
