9 reasons why students never embrace the cold season

It’s the cold season and to students, some have accepted the upshot while others still can’t believe and wish it was a hoax like the previous awaited El Nino that never was! Here are some nine reasons as to why some students never embrace the cold season.

Increased ‘lungula’

We all have grown up knowing that ‘lungula’ is the best normal way compared to heaters to overcome body coldness and so with the vast freedom, most students tend to put the theory into practice. This is evidently seen by the sloppily disposed condom and P2 sachets around the school compound specifically the hostel sections and also how they are active in class during lectures.

Late for lectures

As it goes, every village has to have that mad person and so to those who don’t have a girlfriend or a boyfriend to practice the ‘lungula’ tend to be late for class since much of their time is always lost in negotiating whether to attend or miss the lecture while at the comfort of their warm bed.

Avoid lectures
One can notice the variance between the commencement of the semester and the cold season just by the look at the number of deserted spaces and seats. Many miss out the lectures by giving out trivial excuses such as “I’m sick with a cold” and even make sure they have posted or asked a friend to post in the class whatsapp group so that everyone would see and feel sorry for them but the reality is that they are afraid of the cold.

Freeze and shine

Wonders shall never end, right? Well however came up with this estimate was never wrong because seriously we all know (even that little child at home) that it’s a cold season and we are supposed to wear heavy clothes in respect to the weather but you will be surprised to find some campo girls putting on their shortest skirt and sleeveless tops then walk majestically to class as if nothing wrong is going on. Surely, don’t get me wrong but where was this clothe during summer!

Clothe re-wear

Only a few students can afford to take their clothes to the laundry and still have money to buy lunch or supper so for the majority there is no other option but to re-wear their clothes after two or three days to avoid being noticed because of the tenacious cold and rain that if they wash them, they can’t dry on time.

Undone assignments

Mainstream never get to attend most classes during this season unless they miss that one crush in class or extremely sick and need to attend the school clinic so they never get to know if the lecturer gave out an assignment (unless you have that caring class rep) until the submission date. This is when you see students asking for lecturers’ numbers in class WhatsApp groups only to give excuses on why they never did the assignment and ask for extra two or three days.

Demand for more pocket money

''Mom/Dad, you know it’s always raining so I have to board a Matatu each day to school and on school projects,” is the kind of lame excuses students try to fix in their parent’s mind to get that extra pocket money only to stay at their place to eat, buy bundles for ‘moshene’ about how one is good in bed, buy extra movies and sleep.

New relationships

Just like the strategy the ‘black community’ in America who never had proper registration papers used when Trump was elected president which was of marrying or being married to the USA citizen, students also have this tendency of having new relationships specifically for this cold season because their companions could be either far or busy messing up with someone elsewhere.

Increased budget

To those matured students who have got a chance to stay outside the school compound to a normal bed-sitter or single roomed where a hot shower isn’t guaranteed so they have to refill their gas often due to the number of times they boil their bathing and tea water beat the cold not to mention transport.
