The curtains are set to fall on Kenyatta University Vice Chancellor Prof Olive Mugenda’s a decade  reign.

Mugenda recently announc4ed that she will be retiring from her post on Friday, March 18.

The VC was speaking during a ground breaking ceremony for the International Language and Culture Center at the Kenyatta University main campus. Early March, the Employment and Labour Relations Court had ordered Mugenda to produce her contract letter which she was to present in court.

This came after human rights activist Okiya Omtata filed an application in court seeking an indefinite termination of her contract.

In January, the Employment and Labour Relations court reversed orders sending Mugenda on terminal leave pending hearing of a case challenging her ouster filed by Omtata.

In his ruling, Justice Nduma Nderi suspended the orders initially granted by Justice Helen Wasilwa, and directed that Mugenda resume’s office.

Prof. Mugenda has had an illustrious career at the university where she spearheaded a massive expansion of facilities and raised student enrollment to the current 70,000. She is credited with turning the university from a centre for education training to a multi-disciplinary institution.
