Reigning national girls' football champions Wiyeta stormed into the semifinals with an unbeaten record as East Africa Secondary School Games enter into the knockout stages today at Sheikh Abeid stadium in Arusha, Tanzania.

Wiyeta, coached by Edgar Manyara, continued to cause havoc at the regional games after they beat Tanzania's Isevya School 2-0.

Lethal striker Edna Wanda was once again on target after she scored a brace for the Kenyan girls.

Wiyeta won their opening match against Uganda's Noa girls 3-1 before yesterday's match.

The eight-time Kenyan champions take on Amus College of Uganda in their last preliminary match today with high hopes of topping their group.

"My girls have been improving by each match and we want the title to cross over to Kenya," said the coach.

Another Kenyan girls' football team Dagoretti Mixed also powered their way into the semifinals with a match at hand after they defeated Rwanda's Mukarange 3-1 ahead of their today's last preliminary match against Sacred Heart of Uganda.

However, it was a bad day for their boys' counterparts Ebwali who bowed out of the games without a win.

The Kenyans were given a brutal reality after they were mercilessly hammered by Uganda's St Mary's Kitende 6-0 in a one-sided match that the Western region boys had little to offer.

In rugby 7s, Kenyan teams continued to shine where the winners will be determined today after the end of the round robin matches.

In yesterday's matches, national champions Koyonzo had mixed fortunes after they lost 19-15 to Hanna International of Uganda but recovered to beat Jinja International School of Uganda 10-7.

Kenya's Butula School beat Elera of Tanzania 26-5 and Uganda's Ntare 25-7. Jinja saw off Ntare 17-0 in an all-Ugandan affair.

In girls' volleyball, Kesogon of Kenya was pushed to the wall before overcoming Rwanda's IPRC Kigali 3-2 to sail through.

The going got tougher in both boys and girls hockey, after Trans Nzoia girls lost 3-1 to Kakungulu girls of Uganda while Friends School Kamusinga were handed a 1-0 beating by Tanzania's Arusha Meru.

Once again netball remained a Ugandan affair after St Mary's Kitende and Noa Girls made it to today's final. In the semis, St Mary's Kitende dismissed their compatriots Buddo 40-36 while Noa defeated Madina Islamic 56-28 in an all Ugandan semis. The final will be a repeat of Ugandan nations where Kitende met with Noa.
