Zetech shock blunt Strathmore University Swords

Zetech University Sparks continued with their good run at the weekend to enhance their chances of qualifying for the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) women’s Premier League play-offs.

Sparks beat Swords 45-32 to chalk their 10th win of the season and maintain their top four spot on the standings.

They are fourth with 25 points from 10 victories and five losses. They are one point less than Swords, who have won 11 and lost four.

Lucy Musyoki starred for Zetech with 16 points while Edna Kola scored eight for Strathmore.

Sparks led from the onset taking the first quarter 15-11. Swords then recovered to take the second 9-7 but it was Zetech, who went into the break with a narrow 22-20 lead.

The third quarter was dull as both sides failed to utilise their scoring chances. However, Zetech were stronger sinking 23 points against Strathmore’s 12 in the second half to carry the day.

Defending champions Equity Bank Hawks beat African Nazarene University (ANU) 71-43 to firm grip on the top sport.

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) overpowered University of Nairobi (UON) 76-37 to register their 10th win of the season.

An elated Zetech Coach Maurice Obilo his charges had bounced back from the slow start and are now targeting a top three finish.

“We had a slow start because most of my players this season came straight from high school and were new to competition at the league level,” Obilo said.

In men’s KBF Division One, Zetech Titans beat KDF Morans 65-55 to enhance their chances of earning a promotion to the top tier.

Deng Garang led Titans with 16 points with Liban Hussein adding 11 while Graham Indasi scored 14 for the junior soldiers.

Meanwhile, Zetech played to two draws in the Football Kenya Federation women’s Premier League.

The students battled to a 1-1 draw against Kayole Starlets and held Wadadia to a 2-2 stalemate.
