The East Africa Classic Rally has been struck by grief when one of the event directors JF Vohra died in an accident on Friday.

Sarova Hotels Managing Director Jaideep Vohra died after suffering serious injuries in a car crash near Emali in Makueni County.

The East Africa Classic Rally, confirmed Vohra’s death in a statement to the Press: “With deep regrets we announce the passing of Jaideep Singh (JS) in a road accident. We believe that he would want the East Africa Classic Rally to continue and we organizers believe the 2017 event should continue in his memory.  Our condolences go to the family and friends."

He was in charge of Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort and Spa and Pan Africa Hotels before he met his untimely death.

Even with the sad news, the rally went on and overnight leader Stig Blomqvist of Sweden spoke of a tricky first day of the Kenya Airways East Africa Classic rally as the event entered its second day with cars crossing to neighbouring Tanzania.
