New ‘dolphin’ headphones allow swimmers to listen to music underwater

You don’t need to worry about whether these headphones are waterproof to 30m.

They conduct sound through bones, the same way dolphins and whales communicate.

The Neptune’s headphones strap on to swimming goggles and rest in front of a user’s ears, sending sound waves to the inner ear.

Dave Seiler, from US company Finis, said: ‘The result is an incredible audio experience.

‘Having the music just appear in your head is quite surreal but once swimmers get used to it they love it.’

The device takes inspiration from the Bone Fone, a forgotten product launched in the 1970s that transmitted music through the listener’s collarbone.

Mr Seiler added: ‘We have come along way since those times and have now launched a truly unique product in the Neptune.’

The mp3 player comes with 4GB of storage – enough capacity for 1,000 songs.
