Mystery surrounds the death of a junior police officer in geothermal rich area of Olkaria Naivasha after he drowned in a pool of water while on duty.

The body of the officer was found lying in the pool by his colleagues and he was confirmed dead on arrival in the facility’s health center.

There were conflicting reports about the death of the officer attached to Olkaria police post with some quarters claiming that he had been ailing and was under medication.

Another source claimed that the officer was on patrol when he slipped and fell into the pool which is not fenced.

Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru confirmed the incident adding that only a postmortem would determine the cause of the death.

“We can confirm that one of our officers died in Olkaria while and an inquest file has been opened up as part of investigations,” he said.

According to a worker in the area, the officer was alone when the incident happened making it hard to determine what or how the accident occurred.

According to him, the deceased had on several occasions visited the pool that traps hot steam to wash his face.

“He was not that medically fit and we suspect that he slipped and fell into the pool and there was no one to assist him,” he said.
