Palaver

The hiccups assailing the the extremely short-lived coalition between TNA/URP and UDF continue to stay in the news. Is that because of how and when it was signed, or the signatories or the very public falling out and subsequent meetings to haggle over a name? It still reminds one of the jilted lovers that turn up at weddings screaming damnation. Some hope to actually scuttle the wedding, but others realistically come to cause a ruckus even if it is just for the nuisance value. Take your pick.

Methinks Kenyans are sometimes too casual about really important things. One of these is the bringing forth of new life, especially those that pop out into our troubled world on auspicious occasions like Xmas and New Year’s Day. Not so in Naijaland. The First Lady (no less) and wife of President Goodluck, Patience, was on New Year’s Day at hand at the National Hospital, Abuja, armed with a First Baby of the Year Certificate to welcome the first baby of 2013, to the mother, Mrs Kikelomo Badejo. Learn something here folks.

Good morning Eugene. we really appreciate your compelling political party operatives to make their covenants public hopefully under some Act of bunge. Remmeber in 2005 when Raila complained that he had only glimpsed a copy of the State-sponsored draft constitution through a window in Naivasha. The then Minister for Internal Security Chris Murungaru was to chide him saying: “Hata shetani mwenyewe anajua hii katiba ni nzuri (even satan himself knows it’s good for the country.” Good grief!

And finally...

The past five years have been a non-stop campaign period, right? But the public enjoyed themselves abundantly when some supporters threatened to strip naked and shame the devil; others danced themselves lame to hastily compose songs; while others tried some karaoke-style renditions that permanently blacklisted them from the annual National Music and Art festivals. Any more shows between now and March for those that missed Season One?
