This column congratulates Usuk County MP-elect Proscovia Alengot Oromait. Miss Oromait scored a first for Africa last week when she was elected an MP in Uganda at age 19. Born in 1993, Miss Oromait starts the onerous task of completeing her undergraduate studies at Uganda Christian University in Mukono, while pursuing her passion for the environment, education, health policy and gender issues. We hope this should keep her busy enough so she does not learn some of the other unsavoury things all politicians do.

There is this vertically challenged 24-year-old South Korean man went literally over his head. Reason? Mr Lee is a mere 5 feet 5 inches tall and was angry that the high-heel shoes women wear make them taller than him. Mr Lee was arrested after he stole one heel too many. Strange world this is. Really strange.

On Sunday, in just two hours and some seconds to spare Palaver watched Geoffrey Mutai edge compatriot Dennis Kimetto to bring home a clean $500,000 (almost Sh42 million) at the Berlin Marathon. At the post-race media interview Mutai was heard translating the reporter’s inevitable how-did-you-find-the race? Question in a certain Rift Valley dialect to which Kimetto replied in Kiswahili. Wonder who translated the Kiswahili for the mzungu reporter, Heh! Heh! Heh!

We sincerely hope there is a lot of fish and coffee in Belarus since the two main opposition parties promised to boycott a parliamentary election yesterday. They think the recent election voters to “go fishing, have some coffee with your friends or visit your parents”. Wow! Compare that with the frenzied by-election campaigns for Murang’a, Ndhiwa and Homa Bay seats recently. And here are chaps urging voters to stay away from poll stations! Won’t work over here.

And finally…

When aptly named Zion Athletic and Common Ground United took on each other in a West Midlands Christian League in Birmingham, UK, the players were expected to behave both on and off the pitch in a manner “morally, decently and ethically sound of action and speech, honouring the name of Jesus Christ”. However, the game ended in a punch-up worthy of a title fight boxing extravaganza. Twaff!!
