Palaver

Quid pro quo is never a perfect equation, even when it is negotiated. If in doubt, think of the outcome of the Monday by-elections. William Ruto’s URP supported Uhuru Kenyatta’s TNA candidate in Kajiado North and Kangema constituencies believing, the parties and their leaders are ‘like-minded’. That is easier said than done. In Market Ward, deep inside Ruto’s Eldoret North constituency, TNA snatched bones from the jaws of URP. Now TNA is celebrating all over town, claiming it is more popular than Ruto’s URP even in its home turf. Politics is about winning and at this stage of the game, it can change perceptions.

Palaver knows why UDF’s hot air balloon is not flying any more after the by-election backlash in Bukura ward in Lurambi.  The loud Boni Khalwale had declared the ward by-election would test UDF’s popularity in Kakamega.  UDF lost to ODM in home turf.  Now the test was this, Khalwale’s favourite failed, which means he must go back to the drawing, assuming no one’s stolen it.

The man who perfected the art of horse-trading under Kibaki’s Narc administration may be in trouble for loving  Eugene Wamalwa too much.  Now Bungoma County voters do not want Wamalwa to impose a candidate for senate and governor on them. Wamalwa had reserved these choice portions for Musikari Kombo and former PS Kenneth Lusaka. Now you know why Kombo has remained Wamalwa’s chief vendor. After all, who can blame him for looking for a stress-free ride to the Senate?

Talking of perchers brings back Ikolomoni MP Boni Khalwale. By supporting UDF presidential aspirant, the overly vocal legislator might be looking for an easy ride Kakamega County Senate, and there can be no better patron for him than DPM Musalia Mudavadi. In becoming a fixture behind Mudavadi, Khalwale is easily securing a place for himself at the high table of devolution. There is nothing wrong with self-love, after all the Good Book says love your neighbour as you love yourself.

And finally...

Manchester City boss Mancini tinkered with his defence on Tuesday and paid the price as Real Madrid turned around the match and won. Is there a lesson in there for our politicians? .
