Government reviews Galana food security project

NAIROBI, KENYA: The Government has phased out the construction of milling plant in Galana food security project as recommended by inter-ministerial task force.

Speaking on Friday, Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa said construction of the milling plant has been moved to consequent phases that will include the private sector.

“We are taking active measures to ensure that we help build a sustainable future for Kenya,” said Wamalwa.

He noted that through the Galana Kulalu Food Security Project, and in partnership with the Israeli Government, 100 young Kenyans will get free training on irrigation engineering in Israel every year for six years; with the same training model being replicated in various Kenyan institutions of higher learning.

Following the review, the project is now expected to deliver the 10,000-acre model farm at Shs 7.2 billion down from Shs 14 billion.
