The Public Service Commission (PSC) has published the names of 14 candidates shortlisted for the position of chairperson of the Ethics Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

The candidates include former Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, Bishop David Oginde, and Lawyer Charles Kanjama, who will face off in two-day interviews set for February 27 and 28.

Kibwana will be interviewed on Monday, February 27, 2023, while Bishop Oginde and Kanjama will face the panel on Tuesday, February 28 at select times.

Other candidates are former IEBC Commissioner Thomas Letangule, Benjamin Adama Mweri, Amani Komora, Isaac Kaberia Kubai, Abdihafid Abdullahi Yarow, Susan Nekesa, Josiah Onyancha, Norah Chepkemoi Mutai, Kenneth Sakwa Buliba, and Justine Wawira.

The interviews will be conducted at the PSC offices on Harambee Avenue in Nairobi.

The PSC invited interested applicants to apply for the position of EACC chairperson in January after the seat fell vacant following Eliud Wabukala's retirement.

Wabukala had been at the helm of the commission for six years. He was appointed by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2016.

He replaced Philip Kinisu who resigned in August 2016 after National Assembly's Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) recommended his removal from office over alleged involvement in the National Youth Service scandal.

After interviews, the PSC is supposed to send the name of the qualified applicant to the president, who will transmit it to Parliament for approval, says the EACC Act.

"The president shall, within 14 days of receipt of the name of the successful applicant forwarded, select the person to fill the vacancy in the commission and forward the name of the person to the National Assembly for approval," says the EACC Act.

The EACC chairperson is selected for a single term of six years, and won't be eligible for reappointment.

The holder of the office will be paid allowances as determined by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
