Police have launched a manhunt for a 24-year-old man suspected to have stabbed his mother to death in Mwiki, Nairobi.

Mary Wanja, 47, was brutally murdered in her sons' house.

Detectives led by Justus Ombati visited the house to comb the crime scene and record statements from witnesses.

Ombati said the woman had travelled from Murang’a to visit her sons. Around 6pm, the suspect disappeared only to show up at 3am drunk.

The suspect’s twin brother is fighting for his life at St Francis Hospital, Kasarani. He sustained serious stab wounds while trying to save his mother.

“Investigations indicate that the suspect has mental issues and was always fighting with his mother. He returned home drunk and after an altercation with his mother, he took a knife and stabbed her twice in the neck and right hand," Ombati said.

Elsewhere, the bodies of two girls were recovered from Athi River.

The two girls aged 11 and 12 drowned while swimming in Maguguni, Thika East, on Sunday, before their bodies were swept downstream.

Ngoliba OCPD Namutai Kutima confirmed the incident.
