A storm is brewing at the Nairobi County Assembly over the recent minority leadership changes.

A section of Orange Democratic Movement and Wiper party-allied Members of the County Assembly have opposed the changes, saying they were conducted in contravention to the party’s constitution while some of those replaced have declined to step down from their positions.

On Tuesday last week, ODM conducted a reshuffle of its leadership at the Assembly and membership of the Assembly Service Board.

In the changes, Embakasi MCA Michael Ogada was appointed the minority leader, replacing Karen MCA David Mberia. He will be deputised by nominated MCA Melab Atema, who took over from Hospital MCA Patrick Musili of the Wiper party.

Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok retained his position as the minority whip, same as his deputy Moses Ogeto of Kilimani ward.

Imara Daima MCA Kennedy Obuya faulted ODM party officials for not following the law while making changes to the leadership positions.

“We are not against the changes made but against the process that was used by party officials to unseat the leadership of David Mberia and Patrick Musili. It was against the party’s constitution and members were not involved in the process,” Obuya said.

Dandora Phase 4 MCA Francis Ngesa accused some party officials of engaging in divisive politics.
