Governor Sonko’s cabinet to appear before EACC on Friday

Governor Mike Sonko’s cabinet is set to appear before the EACC for grilling over the construction of Dandora Stadium this Friday.

Another five officials will also be required to record statements at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters at the Integrity centre.

A letter seen by The Standard indicates that the CECs will be required to appear in shifts on select dates as the anti-graft agency investigates payments, amounting to Sh196 million in the ongoing construction of Dandora stadium.

Joyce Kinyanjui (Director IGR & Head of CEC Secretariat), Samwel Kinyanjui (Administration Officer - CEC Secretariat), Peter Mugo (Chief Of Staff) and Leboo Morintat (Deputy County Secretary) are expected to appear before the commission on Friday.

On December 2, Former Acting County Attorney Christine Ireri, CEC for Agriculture Winfred Gathangu, CEC for Devolution Larry Wambua and suspended CEC for Health Mohamed Dagane will also be seeking audience with EACC.

Roads CEC Hitan Majevdia, Environment CEC Vesca Kangogo, Trade Allan Igambi, and the Education CEC will be appearing on December 3, 2019.

The last batch encompassing the Lands CEC Pauline Kahiga, CEC for ICT Newton Munene and Suspended CEC for Finance Charles Kerich will avail itself for questioning on December 4, 2019.

Last week, the CECs failed to appear before the commission as they were in Mombasa to give their input to the budget and appropriations committee that was preparing the supplementary budget.

Governor Mike Sonko had consequently penned a letter to the anti-graft agency informing EACC’s Forensic Investigations director, John Lolkoloi that his team would not be able to honour the summons.

“Your notice is too short and not convenient since prior arrangements to comply is not feasible. All officials are already engaged out of Nairobi in a budget committee meeting. Therefore the notice is untenable for compliance,” read the letter dated November 15.
