Despite many developers building high-rise apartments in the city, some are building bungalows to accommodate a modern city family.

Nilya Court, located in Syokimau area opposite the Mlolongo Weighbridge, three kilometres from Syokimau Railway Station is one of the project. The development sits on a one and a quarter acres of land, on Kware Road off Mombasa Road. It was commissioned in April, and is being developed by Nilya Holdings.

Nilya Court is a gated community that consists of 13 semi-detached three-bedroom bungalows with a plinth area of 115 square metres. Already, two units are complete and ready for occupation and the first six units will be ready by the end of October and the rest by December 31.

The front doors are made of mahogany wood, painted clear varnish, tiled floors, walls painted cream orange and chipboard ceiling painted white in all rooms with spacious windows that allows in natural light during the day. Inside rooms doors are made of medium density fibreboards.

The kitchen area has its worktops made of granite with six lower and eight wooden cabinets. Next is washroom area with two partitions one toilet and showers facility with, hand washbasin shaver’s area, which is shared by the two children’s rooms.

Near them is a corridor that leads to the first room for girls painted purple but colour can be changed as per the client’s request. The two rooms have wall bracket lighting and rose lighting, while the boys’ room is painted cream green. All the rooms come with inbuilt wardrobes.

The houses are separated by flowery hedge and a garden, and each has a parking space for two cars, houses six to eight, have a spacious garden and are going at Sh7.4 million. The rest will sell at Sh7million.

Also to be put up according to the foreman Mbuthia Edward, is a playground, cabro paved driveway and a septic tank to treat sewer since the Syokimau area has no sewer line. Each house will also have a water storage tank.

According to Mbuthia, the idea was to construct spacious, affordable houses that can accommodate the average sized city family.

“Nairobi itself is synonymous with apartments, which do not provide space for a modern family but at Nilya Court, we considered that,” says Mbuthia.

Security of the court is a 2.7 metre perimeter electric fence, which is still under construction, with guards manning the gate.

However, the Kware Road leading to the court is dusty but plans are under way for its upgrade, since it has the National Appropriate Building Materials Technology Centre and UN Habitat Kenya Women Landless Trust houses nearby.

Nearby amenities include, hospitals, supermarkets and shops at Mlolongo and upcoming Naivas Supermarket at former JKIA resort Club.
