Gaspo stun champs Vihiga Queens to storm Womens Premier League finals

Gaspo Women on Friday shocked defending champions Vihiga Queens after knocking them out 5-4 on penalties (1-1) in the Football Kenya Federation Women’s Premier League semifinal playoffs played in Nakuru.

The win saw Gapo end Vihiga Queens' four-year dominance in the Premier League and will now face off against 2019 finalists Thika Queens on Sunday.

Thika Queens thrashed debutants Nakuru  Queens 4-1 to make it to the final in the second semi-final played at the same venue.

Harambee Starlets forward Mwanahalima ‘Dogo’ Adam bagged a brace whith Dorcas Shikobe and Esse Akidaadding two more as Sellah Anyango netted Nakuru Queens' lone goal.

The final will see Gaspo and Thika Queens both from Zone 'A' renew rivalry after meeting twice in the league this season with the latter winning both matches.

In the opening semifinal, Harambee Starlets star Corazone Aquino scored from the spot to give Gaspo the lead after former Kisumu All Starlets top scorer Mercy Airo was fouled inside the box in the 24th minute.

The 2019 CECEFA top scorer Jentrix Shikangwa restored parity for the defending champions at the half hour mark after firing in a rebound past Judith Asimbo.

After playing out to a 1-1 stalemate in regular time, Queens leading goalscorer Terry Engesha, who has so far scored 15 goals missed from the spot to hand Gaspo a shock win and a chance to try and win the title.
