NAIROBI, KENYA: President Uhuru Kenyatta is Wednesday afternoon expected to unveil the 2014 FIFA World Cup Trophy in Nairobi.

The event is scheduled to begin at 1pm at Coke Plaza, Upperhill in Nairobi.

The chartered plane carrying the solid-gold Fifa World Cup Trophy touched down in Nairobi Wednesday morning on its globetrotting odyssey across nations.

Kenya is among 88 countries, eight in Africa hosting the most coveted prize in the world of sports. The tour started at the Christ is the Redeemer Statue in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, on September 12.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, the only person in Kenya entitled to lay hands on the 18-carat gold trophy, will receive the trophy on behalf of Kenyans.

The trophy will be in the Kenyan capital for three days before heading to Tanzania.

The tour is Coca-Cola’s gift to Kenya as part of its 50th Jubilee celebrations. This is the second time Kenya is hosting the trophy after its maiden trip in 2009.
