Julius Sunkuli’s father dies of intestinal disease at 78

The father of former powerful Internal Security Minister Julius Sunkuli is dead.

Olomoiri ole Sunkuli, 78, who was the son of the chief Laibon of the Moitanik Maasai clan Tupunya ole Sunkuli died yesterday of intestinal complications at Tenwek Mission Hospital in Bomet County where he had been admitted for a week.

“Our father who had for many years enjoyed robust health was last week taken ill at Tenwek Mission Hospital where doctors diagnosed him with an intestinal infection. Though doctors worked round the clock to reverse the situation, he succumbed to the illness this morning,” said his son Charles Talengo, the Managing Director Ewaso Nyiro River Basin Development Authority.

The respected elder Sunkuli who is survived by his wife Ayanoi, seven children and several grand children hailed from Nakuiyani area of Transmara, Narok County.

He was also the father of Andrew Leteipa, Nairobi businessman and publisher, who contested the Narok County senatorial seat in last year General Election, which was being eyed by Julius.
