Njiraini to exit as KRA advertises for top position

John Njiraini is finally set to vacate his post as Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Commissioner General, ending a year of speculation.

Audit firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) yesterday put up an advertisement for the tax agency’s top job, signalling an end to Mr Njiraini’s seven-year stint.

However, there was no end to the drama that has characterised Njiraini’s last days at Times Tower, with KRA forced to discount another advert that was doing rounds on social media as fake.

“KRA seeks to recruit the Commissioner-General who, as Chief Executive Officer, will lead the institution through its transformative journey,” read the advert in the Government’s weekly publication, MyGov.

PWC and KRA also advertised for the recruitment of commissioner for Corporate Services.

“The Commissioner-General... is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the authority, the management of its funds and property and for providing leadership to the authority’s staff,” said the advert.

Besides having a first degree from a reputable accredited university, the successful candidate should have at least 15 years’ experience, 10 of which must be at a senior leadership level in large public or private entities. 

Njiraini has been at the helm of the tax authority since March 2012 following his appointment by President Uhuru Kenyatta, then the Finance Minister. He replaced Micheal Waweru.
