Traders turn Machakos rugby event into profit

 

MACHAKOS, KENYA: The just concluded Rugby games in Machakos town over the weekend left a trail of hefty profits for the local traders.

The business community in the town narrated how they earned huge profits during the three day event which kicked off on Friday and ended on Sunday.

The event was pretty abit different from the previous year as the organizers ensured no unpleasant happenings witnessed like in the past when the church in the area raised concern over some behaviors which were un-Godlly.

Bars and lodgings were full to the capacity as patrons from outside  Machakos thronged them for entertainment and accommodation.

Equally residents of Machakos intermingled with the visitors in disco theatres and other relevant connections.

However, huge traffic jam was witnessed along all roads leading to Machakos town due to high increase of vehicles mostly belonging to the vistors.

Both traffic police and the county government askaris worked round the clock to fight the jam and ensure all is well.

The residents were heard singing in joy and praising the governor Dr Alfred Mutua for having brought them what happens in other great towns of Kenya and outside world.

''Infact I didn't believe such an international event could be carried out here in Machakos, Bravo our governor,''' said Master Francis as he celebrated the occasion.

The chairman of the chamber of commerce, Machakos county Mr Simon Kitheka, said he was satisfied with the volume of business the traders attained in the three day event.

''It is true that all our bars, hotels and butcheries got the climax of their business in the three days and counted huge profits'' added Mr kitheka.

He however, urged the county government in future to allow traders erect tents to relevant areas to accrue more businesses.

Security personnel mobilized from all over the entire county kept vigil through out to ensure no ugly incidents during the occasion.
