NAIROBI, KENYA: Safaricom and Kenya Airways have announced a partnership to allow travelers use air time bonus (bonga points) to pay for domestic flights.

Fly with Bonga Points is a proposition designed to afford Safaricom customers the opportunity to pay for their domestic flights on KQ on either the Economy or Business classes using their Bonga points.

Through the new scheme, a one way ticket will be transferred for the equivalent of 28,000 Bonga points while a return ticket will cost one 40,000 Bonga points.

Launched six years ago, the Bonga Points loyalty programme is Kenya’s biggest loyalty programme. Since its inception, customers have cumulatively earned more than 50 billion Bonga point and redeemed 82 per cent of the loyalty points awarded valued at more than Kshs.8.5 Billion.

“This relationship of like-minded organisations demonstrates our collective desire to ensure that we give our customers the best experience through our unparalleled offerings. As we speak, there are over 9.5 billion Bonga Points on our system and we believe that our customers will be keen to start utilising them by taking advantage of the new proposition when making local flights on KQ,” Bob Collymore, CEO, Safaricom Limited.

KQ Managing Director, Dr. Titus Naikuni noted that the airline has been at the forefront of embracing developments within the mobile and ICT sector to enhance the customer experience. He added that this proposition also fits in with other initiatives undertaken by KQ in the last year to enhance customer service.

“We not only focus on offering excellent inflight experience for our customers, we focus on making the entire end-to-end journey right from the purchase of the tickets to the handling at destination airports is pleasant,” he said.

To purchase the tickets, customers will only be required to book their ticket, get a reference number, dial *126*2# on their Safaricom line and select the “Kenya Airways” tickets. The customer will then be asked to input the reference number and follow the subsequent prompts to complete the transaction.
