Barclays Bank Kenya has appointed Jeremy Awori managing director.

Awori replaces the long serving Adan Mohamed who has been redeployed to the newly created position of the Chief Administration Officer for Barclays Bank Africa.

The latest managerial re-alignments come after Barclays Bank Africa announced the creation of a new Sub-Saharan Africa structure to help drive its ‘One Africa Strategy’.

The appointments take effect from February 1. Mohamed, who will be based out of Nairobi, will oversee the operations of Barclays Bank’s businesses in 10 sub-saharan African countries.

These include Kenya, Uganda, Barclays Tanzania, National Bank of Commerce Tanzania, Seychelles, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Mozambique, Ghana and Nigeria.

Mohamed has been managing Director for Barclays Bank in-charge of East and West Africa.  Until his appointment, Awori held several senior executive positions with Standard Chartered Bank.

“We are continuing with efforts to join our capabilities and our people across Africa not only to become one bank, but also to uniquely position ourselves to deliver a superior client experience on the continent,” said Kennedy Bungane, Barclays Africa Chief Executive and Head of Africa Group Strategy.  “To achieve the One Africa Strategy requires us to align both our model and leadership structure in a manner that positions us as truly one bank in Africa.”
